The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register will be hosting two debates this month to allow local residents to learn more about the candidates hoping to become the new governor of West Virginia.
The Republican debate are scheduled first, on April, 26 at 7pm in the auditorium of West Virginia Northern Community College’s B&O Auditorium in downtown. All Republican candidates including Clark Barnes, Betty Ireland, Mark Sorsaia, Larry Faircloth, Cliff Ellis, Mitch Carmichael, Ralph William Clark and Bill Maloney have been invited.
The Democratic debate is on Thursday, April 28 and all Democratic candidates, Earl Ray Tomblin, Rick Thompson, Arne Moltis, Natalie E. Tennant, John D. Perdue and Jeffrey V. Kessler have been invited. Their debate is also at West Virginia Northern’s B&O auditorium at 7pm.
J. Michael Myer, executive editor of The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register, will moderate the event. “The debate format allows area residents to hear and read what the candidates, together as a group, have to say – and that permits local residents to decide more easily which ones reflect our points of view,” Myer said.
The primary election for the governor’s race is Saturday, May 14.
