Public Forum on Energy Efficiency Programs
“Real Solutions to Rising Electric Rates” is a public forum being held by Energy Efficient West Virginia, the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition and the Coalition for Reliable Power tonight at 6:30pm at the Cabell County Library in Huntington. Energy Efficient West Virginia lobbied for an Energy Resource Standard which did not pass the legislature this session.
The event hopes to educate citizens about why electric rates increase and how those rates are regulated by the Public Service Commission and ways that energy efficiency programs and incentives can help save money.
“There is a lot of misinformation out there about why electric rates are going up and what the Public Service Commission can do to control rates,” said Bill Howley, spokesman for the Coalition for Reliable Power. “We want the folks at the meeting to leave with a better sense of how energy efficiency programs can help, and how we can get those programs up and running.”
The conference will also cover programs for replacing or upgrading HVAC systems, lighting, hot water, refrigeration and insulation.
