Tomblin Signs Mine Safety Bill
Governor Tomblin and House Speaker Thompson celebrated mine safety legislation recently passed and signed by Tomblin. The legislation is in response to the Upper Big Branch disaster in Raleigh County that killed 29 miners in April, 2010.
The legislation protects whistle-blowers and encourages miners to report safety concerns. It also requires top on-site mine officials to sign off regularly on safety logs and targets methane gas and coal dust. Tomblin signed the legislation last week and held a ceremony at the state capitol.
