Official State Biography of Rob Ferguson
Gov. Joe Manchin appointed Rob Ferguson on January 12, 2005, as the cabinet secretary for the Department of Administration. Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin reappointed Rob to the position in November 2010.
A native of Long Island, NY, Rob spent 22 years in the Marine Corps serving in a variety of command & staff assignments that included commanding all the Marine recruiters in West Virginia. He is also a combat veteran of Desert Shield / Desert Storm.
Upon retirement from the Marine Corps in 2000, Rob worked as the director of marketing and sales manager for Petroleum Products Fleet Fueling, a locally-owned and operated West Virginia Company.
Rob is a loyal advocate for veteran benefits. He is a lifetime member and current president of the Mountain State chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, Disabled American Veterans, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Secretary Ferguson received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Education from the Citadel in 1978 and is a 2000 graduate from National University with a Master of Arts in Management. In addition, he is a graduate of the USMC Command & Staff College. The Council of State Governments selected Rob as Toll Fellow in 2008. Ferguson also has served as President of the National Association of State Chief Administrators.
As the Cabinet Secretary for Department of Administration, Rob is responsible for the most diverse department in state government. The department oversees the following divisions and agencies:

Secretary Ferguson is married to the former Ms. Susan Holmes of Saint Albans, WV. They have a son, Adam.
